After the circulation of the footage on Chinese social media, there were calls for better regulation of the industry and improvements to safety measures. The performance troupe the couple belonged to, Anhui Yaxi Performing Art Media, was accused by the local Culture and Tourism Department of not gaining approval to carry out the stunt.
