Albert Wesker is coming back from death in the upcoming Resident Evil TV series. But what is the reason behind his reappearance?

Netflix's new Resident Evil live-action TV series arrives on 14th July 2022 and will be cannon to the iconic video game series. However, this story will focus on different characters, primarily - Jade and Billie Wesker, daughters of the iconic Albert Wesker.
Strangely enough, the mad undercover agent and scientist also return to Netflix's Resident Evil TV series and will play a crucial role in Jade and Billie's harrowing journey through the new Racoon City and the destroyed and disheveled streets of the post-apocalyptic London.
But what exactly is Albert Wesker's role in this upcoming RE TV series? And more importantly, how is Wesker still alive?

Warning: Spoilers for Resident Evil 5 ahead
Frankly, we do not know. Fans of the Resident Evil TV series may remember Wesker's brutal and oddly satisfying death at the end of Resident Evil 5. While we never got to see Wesker's dead body, RE 5 director Masachika Kawatasa confirmed that Wesker had indeed died.
The upcoming Resident Evil TV series takes place in two different timelines. So far, we know that Wesker is well and inexplicably alive alongside his two new daughters in the 2022 version, almost 13 years after he was canonically confirmed dead.
Wesker is resurrected in the Resident Evil TV series
Interestingly, the Resident Evil TV series showrunner Andrew Dabb addressed the elephant in the room in an interview with EW. Wesker seems to have been resurrected, and Dabb is holding the much-demanded explanation close to his chest.
While he didn't reveal exactly how Wesker has come back to life, he did say that the idea behind his resurrection isn't something like "he's immune to lava," as fans would recall him being shot by an RPG in a drowning pool of lava.
As surprising as it may seem, it won't be the first time Wesker comes back to life. After all, the insatiable power-hungry agent wasn't a regular human to begin with after injecting himself with the T-Virus, and, as such, the developers found another plausible way to bring back him and his iconic shades back.
It turns out that the explanation of Wesker's reappearance in the Resident Evil universe is a big part of the narrative in this upcoming TV series. As a result, fans should expect a proper explanation in season 1.
"I don't want to give too much away, but I will say the explanation for why Wesker is the way that he is and how he is still alive go hand in hand," says Dabb. Thankfully, eager fans won't have to wait much longer to find out as the first season of the Resident Evil TV series arrives on 14th July 2022.
