The French financier started dating the actress, who lived in New York City while he was based in London. By the time they started their relationship, Thurman was already a mom of two, Maya and Levon Hawke, whom she shared with Ethan. The multimillionaire also had children, Flynn and Cy, from his previous relationship with Elle Macpherson.
They got engaged in 2008, separated briefly the following year, welcomed the daughter in 2012, and broke up two years later. The same year they separated, Busson filed a suit over the custody of their daughter, Luna, then two. Thurman fought back.

Thurman's spokesperson said at the time of Busson's custody suit that it was unfortunate his visitation rights were public news. However, they were optimistic that the actress and her former fiancé would reach a fair agreement in court.
This would not be the first time her relationship ended tragically. Even though Thurman takes full responsibility for her marriage to Ethan failing, she only learned after the divorce that he had been having a relationship with his children's nanny, Ryan Shawhughes, whom he married.
Ethan explained that he and Shawhughes only started dating long after his divorce from Thurman had gone through. Maya said her parents' divorce was both exciting and challenging, but what they learned from it was not to take each other for granted.
Following their parents' divorce, weekends became important to them, as it was when they spent time together. The couple's daughter learned that their time wasn't infinite but borrowed, and luckily, the bond they shared as a family surpassed the breakup, as seen in 2023.

On May 16, 2023, Thurman, 53, was seen at Jeanne du Barry's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival opening night alongside her son, Levon, 21. The actress wore a pink sleeveless gown featuring a princess skirt and a fitted bodice.

The star's outfit was accessorized with a beaded bracelet, a red cape-like jacket, and a Gothic choker. She'd styled her blonde hair in a messy bun and wore minimal makeup. Her actor son wore a black tuxedo with a matching bow tie.

Despite Thurman's relationships with her children's fathers not working out, she still tries to be the best parent she could be. Becoming a mother is something the actress has cherished the most in her life.
What Does Uma Thurman Feel about Motherhood?
Thurman and her children share an incredible bond despite the actress confessing that juggling her Hollywood career and parenting took a lot of nerves and energy. However, she'd never give up motherhood for anything!
